Scripture to Live By:
And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
2 Corinthians 5:15
Easter is upon us and the verse above says what Christ Jesus did for us. He died for our sin, he was buried and he rose again in three days. Why is this so important? It is of utmost importance because if He had not we could not have a relationship with God and have our sins forgiven. As a child of God, by faith in what His Son did for me, I am to no longer live for my self-center desires. I am to live for the one who gave His life, that I might live eternally for and with Him.
Home Improvement Post:
In our kitchen there is a space which goes into the furnace room. It is a hole in the wall to get into where the furnace is . It cannot be closed off because if something goes wrong, you have to go through this hole get to the furnace. So we decided to use this space for a desk and an kitchen office.
Here is what we did: We took the door off the cabinet and the drawer out, as you can see it the picture. Then we made a shelf to go where the drawer once was. We are using this space to store paper and odds and ends. We took the drawer out because once we put the desk top on you would not be able to open the drawer.
We took the screen off the hole to the furnace and painted it white. We also painted the inside of the cabinet white.
Taped it off to paint.
We made a bracket for the desk top to rest on and screwed it beneath the drawer opening.
After the screen had dried we put it back on the furnace room opening.
We purchased some metal brackets and painted them white to add extra strength to the desk table top.
After they were dry we screwed them to the wall.
Brackets are in place but before we put the desk top in we wanted to install a light under the wall cabinet above this area to give more light to the desk area.
We purchase a 24 in Under Cabinet light to go here.
We installed it according to the direction.
The lighting is great. Now it is time to put the desk top on. My son-in-law made my kitchen counter tops so he made this extra piece for this area. In the picture below is the desk top a back splash to match the rest of the kitchen and a white board to cover the place where the drawer once was that would give me access to this storage area.
We set it in place and it fits perfect.
Looking good.
Next step is to screw the desk top to the brackets to hold it in place.
So nice.
Next we installed a decorative shelf right above the desk to put books and various office supplies.
The shelf went directly below the light we had installed.
I painted the screw heads.
Now the light was in the book shelf was in and the desk was in.
We had purchase a leg to go on the side that was not supported by a cabinet.
Now it was time to set up my office space. We ran the wires for the speakers and hooked them to a surge protector strip.
Next we hooked up my computer.
Added a printer on the cabinet.
I have always wanted a computer in my kitchen where I could store my recipes and pull them up and not have to look through paper recipes. So now I can just pull up a recipe in my computer and make the desired recipe reading it from my computer screen.
How nice is that?
I also cleaned our the cabinets that were above this office space and stored various office supplies. Now I don't have to leave the kitchen when I need office things. I can just open the doors above this space where I have my office supplies.
I also purchased plastic shoe boxes to uses for various office items and labeled them to know what is in each box and used the cabinet under the desk to store them in. It is working our great.
I went to Better Homes and Garden website and downloaded Printable Labels and made the labels to go on the shoe boxes.
Using my Xyron Machine I laminated the labels so they would last longer..
We used a paper punch to make holes in the label so we could pet the ribbons through.
Then I stacked them alphabetically in the cabinet under the desk.
The ones I would be using more frequently I put beside my printer on the cabinet top.
Blessings,
