Bargain Fruit Trees

Scripture to Live By:
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.  But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.  Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality,  idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.  And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.
Galatians 5:16-25

Frugal Find Post:
Each year my husband and I go to an apple orchard and pick our favorite apples to store and eat in the winter months.  Since we have moved, we decided to find an apple orchard in this areas and  go pick apples. My husband and I went the other day and much to our dismay they were very expensive and the apples were not of good quality.  Very disappointing. So we decided to buy some fruit trees to add to our present fruit garden.

We already had two apple trees one early apple and one fall apple.  The later one is still young and hasn't produced any apples yet.

We also have blueberries, raspberries, a young grape vineyard and kiwi vines that have not produced, but we have our fruit garden in the making.  Hopefully next year will be a year of reaping more fruit.

My husband and I went to Lowe's to buy  a couple of apple trees and a couple of peach trees to add to our fruit garden.  We found what we wanted and went to check out. Much to our surprise, when the cashier rang them up the peach trees they were 57% off. What had been $22.98 were now $9.98. We were thrilled. We had no ideal. The apple trees were 14% savings. What had cost $22.98 now were $19.98.  We brought them home in our little Honda accord. What a sight!
As you can see in the pictures these trees were not just little bitty trees.  Four of them in the trunk of our Honda Accord.  Plus a bag of garden soil.

They were not only in the trunk but in the back seat, extending to the front seat and to the dashboard.

This is the view of the back seat.

Our trees  arrived at our house with all the limbs in tack.  Now we need to figure out the exact spot for each and the best possible way to plant and care for them that they will bear good fruit.

I don't know if you would like to grow your own fruit, but if you do, you might be able to find some bargains at your local Lowe's or other stores that sale plants as we did. Now is a good time to plant them in our area.

As I think of fruit bearing trees, it makes me think of my own life, am I bearing the fruit of God's Spirit in my own life on a daily bases?  "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control..." My hearts desire is to bear fruit in my life that is honoring to God and His Spirit within.

Blessings,

  1. Wow, that's awesome! We don't live in our own house yet, but when we do we definitely want to plant fruit trees. Thanks for the tip!

  2. Good luck with your new trees. My grandparents used to have several orchards that contained many types of fruits plus a grape arbor. I always feel nostalgic about them.

  3. My car has looked like that on several occasions. I don’t know if you have a Rural King nearby but they usually have pretty good deals on fruit tress toward the end of the season.
