Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:5-7
I am taking some quilting classes which I really enjoy. We have an excellent teacher.
This week we made a Thanksgiving wall hanging. I really like the hanging, so I thought I would share with you how simple it is to make. Maybe you would like to try to make one on your own.
What you will need:
1 fabric Thanksgiving panel
1 yard of muslin
1 piece of batting the size of Thanksgiving panel
thread to match the panel
Spray basting
1/4 inch dowel rod (cut dowel rod the width of the panel)
Steps to follow:
Cut the muslin the size of your Thanksgiving panel. Ours was
24 inches wide x 44 inches long.
Stretch muslin backing (right side up) on table and tape it down, as seen below.
Smooth top fabric over the backing - right side down, edges together.
Birth the quilt. This is the time when you carefully turn the quilt right side out through the opening. This leaves the muslin on the back, the batting in the center, and the Thanksgiving panel on the front.
It is important that you smooth the edges of the top panel out far enough so you do not see the muslin on the bottom. Smooth out any wrinkles. Pin all the way around to hold in place so you can sew without any muslin showing.
I sewed around the inter seam shown below.
After you have quilted your wall hanging as much as you would like, make a hanging sleeve from the left over muslin 3 inches X 12 inches. Fold the ends that are 3 inches wide under 1/4 inch and sew a seam. (This will keep the edges from fraying.) Next, fold in half and sew the edges together lengthwise.
Place the middle of the hanging sleeve about 1 1/2 -3 inches down from the top on the back of Thanksgiving Wall Hanging. Sew the hanging sleeve with the machine or by hand.
Put the dowel rod through the hanger casing.
Cut a piece of muslin 4 x 3 inches and iron a piece of freezer paper on it. That will firm it up so you can sign your name and date, on the muslin. After you sign and date it remove freezer paper from muslin. Iron the edges a quarter of an inch under on all sides and sew to the back lower corner of the quilt.
Now you are ready to hang your Thanksgiving Wall Hanger.
I displayed mine in my dining room, so I can enjoy it, while I eat my Thanksgiving meal.
Hope you like it.
Blessing to each of you this Thanksgiving.
