Scripture to Live By:
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Isaiah 55:8-9
Craft Post:
I am constantly misplacing things and my keys are one of the items I misplace along with my glasses. Since Father’s Day is coming up I thought this might be a craft that the Father’s would like, since they seem to have a number of keys for different things like: lawnmowers, buildings, boats, cars, trucks, tool boxes and etc. Also I thought it is a craft that mom’s and children could work on together. We made these with our Children’s Church children.
Here is how we made it.
We used scrap lumber that is l inch by 6 inches wide and made the length 7 inch long.
We took a 1 X 6 inch board and measured it into 7 inch lengths and marked it with a pencil. The we made 45 degree angles in the upper corners, as seen below.
Next we cut the the board into as many 7 inch length as we had marked off in pencil using a miter saw.
Next we l cut the 45 degree angles on the top corners.
We used scrap lumber we had on hand and made enough for our children’s church class.
The next job was to sand all corners, edges, angles and flats. We used a belt sander to do the sanding.
Using the Cricut I printed out the letters DAD, PAPAW, MOM AND MAMAW
so each child could choose what he/she wanted to put on her Key Rack.
After cutting out the letters with the Cricut, I ran them through a Xyron create a sticker gadget to coat with letters with adhesive.
I gathered everything I would need and laid it out on the plaque. You could paint or stain the rack what ever color you would like. I chose to leave it the natural wood.
I made some with Dad, Papaw, Mom and Mamaw to use in our Children’s Ministry for the children to put together and give to the authority figure in their home. Not of all of the children are living in the home of their parents or may only have one parent.
In the picture below, at the top of the rack you see two holes that have been drilled with a quarter inch drill bit. They are placed a quarter of an inch down from the top of the rack. Across the bottom of the rack you see three drilled holes to put the eye hooks in to hold the keys. They are placed 1/2 inch from the bottom and the first and third hole is 1 inch from each side. The one in the center is 2 1/2 inches from the first hole and the third hole.
I had some samples of vinyl siding colors so I thought they could be used as the background for the Bible verse I was using on the plaque. I typed the verse onto card-stock paper, then printed it off and trimmed it with decorative craft scissors. You could put what ever saying you would like on the plaque. I chose this bible verse to teach the children to respect those that God had placed as the authority figures in their home.
I stapled the vinyl sample on the plaque.
Then I centered the verse and glued it in place using Elmer’s Craft Bond permanent tape.
Next, I used a leather shoe string to make the hanger for it and fed the leather through the back of the plaque and tied it in a knot on the front of the plaque, as seen below.
Next I centered the letters for each plaque beneath the vinyl and the bottom of the rack where the screw holes are,
Next, I screwed the eye hooks into the holes to be able to hang at least three sets of keys.
Next I Mod Podge the entire plaque.
Let dry thoroughly. It is ready to give to that special person in your life.
So if you are looking for something to make for Dad perhaps this will give you and idea of what you could do.
Blessings,
