Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.”
This Sunday is the day set aside t to celebrate Mother's Day. I am a mother of three and the grandmother to ten grandchildren and the great grandmother to three precious ones.
I had a wonderful mother. She was a mother to eleven children. She sacrificed her life for all of us. She gave us the best of her time and energy. She made a lot of our clothes and provided nourishing meals to keep us healthy. When my mother went to be with her Lord she left me all her love, in her will. I sought to know more of what love was really like and how to love others with the love that my mom gave me. I found what love is like in the pages of The Holy Bible. I Corinthians 13:4-7 reads, " Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things." I desire to have this type of love as a mother, grandmother and as a person. My mother wanted me to love like this and so does God.
When I was growing up I memorized the following poem or song lyrics, and I would quote it to my mother on Mother's Day. It has been special to me through out the years and it is still precious to me. I do not know who wrote it. I saw on the internet that it was written in 1915 but it didn't say who wrote it.
I enjoy /Altoids Cinnamon Mints and I purchase them in bulk at Sam's Club. I think the metal containers they come in are so cute and I hated to throw them away so I would save them, thinking I would use them someday for a craft. So here is the craft I came up with.
I had my Junior Church class make the following craft to give to their mothers on Mother's Day. I hope their mothers enjoy the poem/lyrics and the little trinket box as much as I enjoyed making it with the children for them.
Craft Post: If you would like to make it for a mother that is special to you, here is what you need:
1 Altoids container
Glue stick or glue gun
Poem printed on card stock to fit in the lid of Altoids container
First, spray paint the outside of the Altoids container with primer white paint. (I used Rust-oleum Clean Metal Primer for the first coat.) Next put a coat of Rust-oleum Gloss Protective Enamel on it. Let it dry thoroughly. (If the writing is not completely covered coat with a third coat.)
Type the following poem/lyrics in your word processor so you can print it out.
M is for the million things she gave me.
O means only that she’s growing old.
T is for the teats she shed to save me.
H is for her heart of purest gold;
E is for her eyes, with love light shining.
R means right, and right she’ll always be.
Put them all together, they spell, “Mother”
A word that means the world to me.
(I typed this poem and put a rose flower beside it. I printed it out on card-stock paper.)
(I traced an outline of the inside of the container, both top and bottom and made a paper template of each. ) After you make your template cut your poem and your felt to fit.
On the inside of the top of the container glue the poem/lyrics "M-O-T-H-E-R", as seen below.
Glue the rig rack around the sides of the bottom of the container with either a glue stick or a glue gun. Then glue the ribbon on top of the rick rick.
Add some artificial flowers to the top of the container.
Now you are finished.
Time to give it to your mom, so she can store her special trinkets it it.
Each time your mom opens her little box she can read the poem/lyrics
and be reminded of how special she is to you.
Very pretty both inside and out.
Cherish the Mom in your life.
Hope you have a blessed Mothers Day.
