Cake Decorating Post: I really enjoy making cakes for children and seeing their faces when they see their cake. I have made a few for this little girl and she seems to really enjoy them. It was no different this year. She was so excited to see it and could hardly keep her hands off. If you have little girls that like castles, this cake is simple to make and I am sure your little girl would be thrilled to have it.
The castle can be for her enjoyment long after the cake is gone. If you would like to make it the following is what you will need.
You will need.
3 cake mixes
1 1/4 cups of oil
Make cake according to directions on the box.
I used 2 yellow cake mixes and one chocolate. I mixed up two yellow cake mixes in mixing bowl. While the cake mixes were mixing. I greased and floured a 12 1/2 inch x 18 1/2 inch pan. When the cake mixes were mixed thoroughly, I pour approximately one and one half of the yellow cake mixes into one end of the cake pan. I tilted the opposite end of the pan up by placing a knife under it, to keep the cake mix from running down to that end. Next I mixed up the chocolate cake mix into the remainder of the yellow cake mix. When thoroughly mixed, I pour the chocolate cake mix batter into the empty end of the pan while removing the knife from under the pan.
Bake approximately 30 minutes in preheated oven at 350 degrees or until cake begins to pull away from the sides and the top is firm to the touch.
While the cake is baking mix up the Butter Cream frosting recipe below.
For this size of cake it takes the following:
8 cups of powdered sugar
2 cup of Crisco
2 cup of margarine
2/3 cup of evaporated milk
4 teaspoons of vanilla
Mix together and beat at high speed for 7-10 minutes
When cake is done. Remove from oven and let it cool on a rack for approximately 10 minutes.
Trim the top of the cake using the rim of the pan as your guide.
This will make the top of the cake flat.
Flip the cake onto the serving cake board with the cut top downward.
Cool cake completely on cooling racks before frosting them.
Frost the cakes and then add borders. As shown below.
Spray the bottom border with green Wilton Color Mist
Then add the top border.
I purchased this little castle to decorate her cake with. I removed the two side castles and used just the center one for the cake.
Spray the top border with blue Wilton Color Mist and then place your castle close to the back of the cake.
Next, I wrote the birthday greeting on the cake with pink frosting, using a number 3 Wilton writing tip.
I had these color mist on hand but didn't end up using the purple.
I used the edible pink beads to go around the bottom border.
I added the prince and the princess and a swing, swans and birthday candles to finish it off.
This cake was a big hit for all who attend the party. I was pleased with the way it turned out.
Hope you like it as well.
